Regulation of Clinical Technologists is linked to the MSC programme. When the coalition Government took office there were concerns about what would happen to the MSC Programme and to Regulation. These concerns are mainly related to the financial pressures now facing the NHS and the country.

In July 2010 the MSC team led by the Chief Scientific Officer, Professor Sue Hill, held 8 road shows around the country. These road shows were used to discuss how MSC was to be implemented locally as well to give an up date on the progress of the development of the educational programme and to talk about the early implementation. Perhaps the most concerning comment for VRCT Registrants was that the new Minister of Health was reviewing Regulation within the NHS and that further comment was not expected before the late autumn.
This note is to alert Strategic Health Authorities and provider organisations of the change in timescales to the regulation of five aspirant groups of healthcare scientists, outlined below. In addition, it is important that employers continue to encourage staff delivering services in these areas to apply to and remain on the appropriate voluntary registers in the interests of public protection.
